What an eventful and wonderful weekend!
First of all we're 6 weeks from the due date!!! Ahhh!! That's only 3 more paychecks...and when you think of it like that the time seems MUCH shorter!
This is straight from the What to Expect When You're Expecting website:
Your Baby in Week 34 of Pregnancy:
What's new this week? Your baby is clocking in at five pounds and could be as tall as 20 inches by now, and the vernix (the white coating protecting your baby’s skin) is getting thicker. This week, a boy's testicles start making their way down from his abdomen to their final destination: his scrotum (look out below!). While about three to four percent of boys are born with undescended testicles, it's nothing to worry about — they usually head downtown before junior turns a year old. In other baby-related developments, those tiny fingernails have probably reached the tips of his fingers by now — and getting ready for that first postpartum manicure.
It was an exciting weekend. My friend, Jill, came down from KS to help with my shower and hang out for the weekend. It was so great to see her since I hadn't seen her in almost 2 years! Being BFP (Big Fat Pregnant) hampers a lot of what you can do but it was fun just to catch up and hang out.
Saturday was the Big Day! I had been looking forward to the shower for over a month, probably longer but pregnancy brain has been kicking in lately and I don't know exactly how long I'd been waiting. I was praying that I would feel better and not so itchy so that I could enjoy every little thing without being miserable and I think a lot of other people were praying for me too. Thankfully I had a really good day and even though it was hotter than blazes outside I was able to stay cool and had very little miserable itching. I took my grannie smelling lotion with me to the shower and never even needed it! That was a miracle in itself!
Every little detail was perfect! I tried to take pictures but I was too busy talking and taking it all in that I forgot that I even had a camera most of the time. When I have some pics from others I'll post some. Each table was decorated so cutely and the gift table - Oh. My. Gosh. The gift table was overflowing and the cupcakes and punch were calling my name! I just don't think I've been to a more perfect baby shower...of course I'm not in the least bit biased.
A lot of family were there, thank God for family, family that I don't get to see that often so it was nice to visit and catch up. I also had a couple of really old friends come! I hadn't seen them in years and years so I was really glad they were able to come.
When I sat down to open my first gift my eyes teared up out of nowhere and I cried probably through the first few gifts I opened and it seemed like the harder I tried to stop the harder I cried! I wasn't expecting to be so emotional but seeing the gifts that everyone had so lovingly picked out for my little boy I guess just brought it home to me that he would really be here soon and be using all of these precious little things. After the initial emotional outburst I was able to just really enjoy seeing all the cute little things I was opening and just feeling overwhelmed at the generosity of everyone! Diapers, Wipes, Clothes, Lotion, Baby Shampoo, Toys, More Clothes, Blankets, Crib, Travel System, High Chair....it seemed never ending...in a good way! The time passed so quickly and before I knew it it was time for everyone to leave and I was ready for a nap!
Sunday we put together the crib and organized the nursery a little and went through all the new things we got and just stared at everything! The nursery is looking more like a nursery and even though I still have a lot to do to be completely organized it feels good having that much done. I'll post pics when it's all done.
