More Things That Make Me Cry

The National Anthem.  It doesn't even have to be particularly well done but when it is - Niagra Falls temporarily relocates to my face.

This is my friend Brooke White singing the National Anthem at a Phoenix Suns game and I think she nailed it.

And this is her blog about facing fears.

Maynard is out

Naming a baby from scratch is hard.  It’s so much easier when you already have name ideas beforehand. We’re at square 1 or maybe even square 0 if such a square exists.

Another problem/issue that we’re encountering is the amount of people
- in the world
- in our lives
- in our families.
All of those people, and a lot of them are boys, have names! Highly inconsiderate of them if you ask me. It’s almost impossible to come across a name that you could possibly consider naming your precious little baby boy without also thinking of someone you know that has that name.

The Results Are In!

I will be surprised if you don’t all already know the results by now...but just to make it official…dun dun dun…

Junk Drawer

I didn’t intend to do a “Junk Drawer” post every week but it just so happens that I’ve tended to be kind of wordy every Tuesday. I have several random tidbits to share so instead of making a post for each of them I thought I would jumble them altogether in the Junk Drawer.

Flexible Much?

Week 19

Tomato...Tomaahhto - Week 19

In almost 48 hours exactly we’ll know!!

I’m trying to mark each milestone…as much for myself as for celebrating this new little one. I certainly haven’t seen the future but in our life plan this is our last baby, which means it’s also my last pregnancy. So I’m all for making each milestone as memorable as possible. In that spirit I’m trying to decide how to make the big “boy/girl” announcement. When we found out with Jimmy it seems like immediately after leaving the ultrasound appointment we made a bunch of calls, then wrote emails and posted tweets shouting from the mountaintops of thrill and excitement - “It’s a boy!!!” I beg your indulgence dear friends and family (I’m waxing eloquent now) in wanting to make this announcement a wee bit more, shall we say, dramatic.

Nothing seems right though. By the time we can get all of the family together several days will have gone by and family and friends will be threatening me with bodily harm and I’ll be about to explode from holding in the news. “It’s a Boy!!” “It’s a Girl!!” “It’s Twins!!” “A Puppy???” (a puppy wouldn’t really surprise me since I have been a *itch lately – that’s for you Dad!)

An elaborate blog post just doesn’t seem personal enough…so what to do?? All I know is I have about 47 more hours to figure it out…if you have any ideas, suggestions, tips or just great stories about gender announcements tell me in the comments.

New Addition

Due to our decision in delaying the announcement for a few days the winner will be announced no later than Monday, January 30th by 12 pm CT.

File Under...

...things that make me cry.

I volunteered  was coerced into doing the bi-weekly "inspirational moment" at work on Feb. 3rd.  During my research I found this video.  I'm not sure exactly why it's inspirational but it did make me cry.  "Why??" you make ask.  "Good question!"  I'll say.  I don't know exactly...

Junk Drawer

I stumbled across a variation of a standard recipe this last weekend that turned out to be really good.  I'm pretty positive I'm a latecomer to the "pasta bake" party but I'm posting this anyway if not for anything else than to help me remember exactly what I did.

I was planning to make spaghetti Sunday evening, an old tired standby of mine. I browned the meat with Tony’s seasoning and went to the pantry to get the spaghetti and saw a new box of ziti. Inspiration struck me out of the wild blue yonder and I decided to do something different. I ran to the grocery store for a box of frozen garlic bread sticks and a package of shredded mozzarella cheese. The following is what I did to switch up my tired spaghetti standard.

18 Weeks

18 weeks today!  We're getting closer and closer to the halfway mark and only 9 more days until we find out whether Jimmy will be a big brother or a big sister (inside joke).  And now down to business.  +1's weekly stats are this:

7 oz and about 5 1/2"...about as long as a bell pepper.

The Importance of Spoons

Remember when I told you about Brent, or was it Brett? Anyway, he is one month older than Jimmy and they sat at the end of a table together in highchairs? Yeah that one. Well, one of the things his mom and I discussed is whether or not their age group should be using spoons yet. The school she had enrolled her son in said that everyone else in his class was already using one. I assured her that her son was not developmentally behind because my son was not using spoons either so there was no way they were behind. Right? Jimmy is a smart cookie and can say "Aqui" so yeah...those other kids have really overbearing parents that force them to eat with utensils they really aren't ready to use.

This week I was discussing the topic with some other moms in an online community I'm a member of and found to my utter shock and amazement that all of THEIR children had started using spoons properly around 12 months. !!!! Well then! I don’t want to be an overbearing parent but if he’s ready to use a spoon then by golly I at least need to offer him one every now and then. So Tuesday I dished up some dinner in a little Styrofoam bowl that was just his size and set it on his highchair tray and a small spoon right next to it. He was still napping soundly while we ate dinner so I waited patiently for him to wake up and try his spoon. When he finally opened his little eyes, I took him right over to his highchair and stuck him in it. He looked so cute sitting there fuzzy-haired and sleepy-eyed looking at this weird arrangement on his tray. Usually the food is directly on the tray and he’s expected to pick it up with his fingers. He picked up the spoon, which in his hand immediately transformed into a spoon shaped drumstick, and started beating a little ditty on the tray. I had the highchair positioned in front of the back door and he caught sight of his reflection in the glass screen door and watched himself play with his new toy.

Junk Drawer

Everyone has one or should have one.
Need batteries?
Need a pen?
Need a hose clip?
Need a hair tie?
Need scrap paper?
Don’t want it but don’t want to throw it away??

JUNK DRAWER!! The multi-purpose or all-purpose drawer…holds anything and everything…misc bits and odds and ends. Defies organization.

That’s my new name of that don’t have a point, purpose or reason. Mostly rambling and you can find anything from comments about pregnancy flatulence to recipes (that maybe cause pregnancy flatulence) and anything and everything in between.

A Gender Will Turnip Soon - Week 17

+1 is 17 weeks today! Approximately 3 more weeks until we find out what he/she is. I have an appointment with my midwife tomorrow and we’ll probably schedule the ultrasound then. I’m really shooting for the 30th so hopefully that day works out for us.

This pregnancy is finally starting to move a little faster and it seems impossible that its basically only 5 more months until this little one is here. I’m not asking for it to slow down though. While I want to enjoy every minute because this is probably (most definitely) the last one, I also don’t want to drag it out any longer than it has to be!

Little Drummer Boy

Thank you to Great Grannie & Grandpa Webb for the drums.  I think he likes the drum sticks maybe a little more than the actual drums.  With the sticks he can make drums out of ANYTHING!

Pregnancy Cravings Are Real

Pregnancy cravings are a weird thing.  With Jimmy a craving meant I wanted something in particular really bad or all the time.  I never really craved anything weird although I was really afraid I would all of a sudden fall in love with sauteed mushrooms and would gag just thinking about it.

Taco Bell tostadas in the 2nd Trimester and a king sized Snickers in the 3rd Trimester.  I even had a Snickers the day Jimmy was born.

Happy New Year and Update - Week 16

Happy New Year!

Jimmy was 16 months yesterday and +1 is 16 weeks today.  They're both growing so quickly!  +1 is the size of an avocado and about 4.5 inches and 3.5 ounces.  We're getting really close to halfway!  We have approx 5.5 months left until he's here.
